Brookfield Earth Day a Wonderful Success, Thank You!
Saturday, April 24th marked the opening community work day at Brookfield Elemenary School's Living Lab. 150 volunteers from the Brookfield Community worked throughout the day to build redwood planter boxes, clean up the courtyard, pull up asphalt, and landscape the front of the school. The grounds look beautiful and the students now have two outdoor classroom garden areas to work in and more to come soon. THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR AMAZING VOLUNTEERS :) See the pictures from a great day.
Common Vision Visits Burckhalter Elementary
On Monday morning the 22nd of March two rock-star-sized, veggie-oil-powered buses arrived at Burckhalter Elementary in East Oakland. Through a partnership with Living Labs they had found their way here during their fruit tree planting tour. 17 wonderful arborist/performer/educator/artists then proceeded to put on a musical theater about the soil food web and our food system for the whole school. Students then made signs and planted 24 fruit trees along Sunnymere Ave next to the school. Smiles and excitement abounded.
Thanks Common Vision!
Bishop O'Dowd's 'Plant a Living Legacy' Event was a touching and wonderful day
Over a hundred people and four generations came out to plant and dedicate 35 fruit trees last Saturday. Joanna Macy led the opening ceremonies calling all to be of one mind. Families, friends and students planted trees dedicated to loved ones of the past and future.
Earth Island Institute Approves Living Laboratories
For 25 years, Earth Island Institute (EII) has been a hub for grassroots campaigns dedicated to conserving, preserving, and restoring the ecosystems on which our civilization depends. Their Project Support program acts as an incubator for start-up environmental projects, giving crucial assistance to groups and individuals with new ideas for promoting ecological sustainability. Living Laboratories was approved by the EII Board of Directors in January 2010 as a part of this program and now officially has 501(c)(3) status.
