How It Works

The Living Laboratories Project (Living Labs) was created to consult and facilitate the creation of living outdoor classrooms and to support the people and organizations working locally to reconnect children with nature. Students, teachers, administrators and the community work with us on every facet of a project, which involves designing and installing a physical living ecosystem space and curriculum.

Generally, our role in a project is to facilitate the process, while the school takes care of the daily program. Once the project is running under its own momentum, Living Lab’s Project continues to support the project as advisors and meet any needs the program requests. In this way we are able to move gradually and seamlessly from a maturing project to a fledgling project creating a replicable but unique Living Lab for students all over the East Bay and beyond.
